The main goal of European Heritage Volunteers is to increase volunteering activities in heritage sectors, by providing educational opportunities as well as hands-on, practical experience. The organisation has been active for more than 20 years and its activities take place all across Europe. Projects often focus on lesser-known heritage sites in more rural, structurally weaker areas. In such cases, volunteer engagements of the local population, including youth, are especially important for the preservation of these sometimes overlooked sites.

In this way, European Heritage Volunteers' important work contributes to the European Year of Cultural Heritage initiative 'Youth for Heritage'.
